Seems like Van Hool should have anticipated these charging problems and done something about them. After all this bus wasn't built for short commutes only.

The biggest reason is lack of development on full ev´s. They only did it for hybrids. They would have build a production line in macedonia wich made the belgium gouverment order busses in china. And the last couple off years there was a serious mismanagment. The kids couldn´t get along about daddy´s legacy

Hi James! I watch your channel a lot and I was talking to a friend who lives in Belgium and they said that there's a new smaller company that's apparently replacing Vanhool? Most of the workers from Vanhool is going there, they couldn't remember the name though but it's interesting!

idk I thought it was pretty dumb for them to make black charging ports when if they made it white it would reflect the heat more making the chargers have less overheating problems would not fully do it but would be way better then black lol

Under his watch fired an experienced and proven person in the bus industry --to let his replacements embezzle $ from company under his nose. Then as recently as last year instructed to throw away $20-$30,000 of collision parts,then deny it to cover his ass

In 1972 I was 15 and touring Europe with a musical group. We toured the Van Hool plant in Belgium. We, however, were traveling in a DAF bus, which at one poiint had to have its tranny replaced on the street near where we were staying.

What a bummer. I liked VanHool from the first time i ever drove one. I hope VDL won't skimp on the quality. Based on your run with the 100% electric but, I don't think the industry is ready for long distance runs the same as trucks..

It was a sad day in Belgium, not only for the workers that lost their jobs, but for what Van Hool represented: they were truly the skunk works division of bus building: a comfy tour bus where the back works like a regular cargo truck for band equipment ?, prisoner transport ?, Mobile doctor office ?, most nightliners for bands on tour ?, a mobile hotel that can fit and sleep 20 people ? They were doing all of that. Their strength was any one-off thing involving people transport that was not on anyone else catalog. The bankrupcy impacted me personally: my bus (a T812) has been stuck in the garage for nearly two months because it needed steering joints, which led me to cancel my holidays to Finland. Still, to this day, despite the promises of VDL for a quick restart, the spare parts situation is uncertain: i have ordered a couple of non-critical parts that, according to the customer portal, is in stock, but there was still no movement. It's been 3 weeks now, there is probably a large backlog of orders for more important customers that need to be processed first, so i'm not losing hope yet.

it is a shame that GREED runs this country. and it is the same with people who are aggressive drivers.

I wonder how this is going to affect one of Van-Hools customers which is Premier Coach TN since their fleet is mostly Van-Hools

Those real engine motor bus are notorious for over heating in hot countries. They can handle hot places due to lack of effective cooling system.

James, there is a massive, MASSIVE difference in the automobile charging experience between Electrify America and Tesla. Electrify America was built out by Volkswagen as a result of a huge fine from their diesel gate debacle. Drivers experiences like those that you heard indicate a system that was cursed to be unreliable from day one. The Tesla Supercharger network is virtually flawless with an uptime of 99.79%. Please resist judging the entire EV charging system from the experience offered by one horribly designed, monitored and operated company with no interest in customer experience. The majority of EV manufacturers have realized that the Tesla system is the only reliable system offering a successful customer experience, and are transitioning the charging of their cars to the Tesla system. Some brands like Ford and GM have already begun the switch. It will take a couple of years for the non Tesla industry to switch over. At that point, charging an EV will be as reliable as fuelling a hydrocarbon powered vehicle. For a look at the near future, check out Norway, where almost 90% of all new automobile purchases are electric, and where a robust and successful heavy duty charging system is in place.

Charging issues that you experienced, although upsetting, are to be expected in a charging industry in its infancy. Tesla have designed and built out a proven reliable system for automotive charging, and will likely be the one who brings reliable heavy duty charging to the bus and truck market when their semis enter full production. Pepsi/Frito Lay have been running Tesla semis for a few years without a single hiccup, but with a Tesla charging system specific to their operational locations. It is interesting to follow Pepsis experiences with their Tesla trucks pulling fully loaded payloads up and over Donner Pass. The future of heavy transportation is clearly electric and possibly hydrogen, but it is still in its infancy. Any time I read the sadly predictable posts predicting the failure of electrically powered transportation, I think back to social media at the turn of the previous century, letters to the editor. A letter from a naysayer who believed that gas powered transportation would never be successful in the future wrote, “Your car may run out of gas, but my horse will never run out of grass.” And the saddest part was that this gentleman truly believed what he said, and what he predicted. Let’s give the heavy duty transportation charging system time to evolve.

I remember decades ago, as a Winnipeg resident, when Flyer faced financial issues. My less than perfect memory remembers the Manitoba provincial government dumping cash into the company, possibly becoming part owner. The name was changed to New Flyer and the rest is history. Thank you for yet another great video. The time and effort that you take to make these videos are greatly appreciated by all of us.
